Karen Kumor is a retired pediatrician, pharmacologist, screenwriter, and novelist. Alongside her scientific career, Karen developed a passion for storytelling and screenwriting. Currently, she works as a staff writer for a television series in production and is writing sci fi novels. Her screenplays include genres ranging from dramedy and thrillers to science fiction and she has also produced, wrote, directed, and filmed a documentary on biodiversity in Connecticut. She earned a Master Screenwriter Certificate from Screenwriting U.

In recent years, Karen has turned her focus to fiction writing. Her debut young adult novel, Outsider Girl: Wayward Horse, was inspired by a medical colleague’s extraordinary bond with a horse and explores grief, belonging, resilience, and friendship through the story of a young girl and the troubled horse that seems to choose her. Karen’s interest in horses began at a young age in Cleveland. Though her urban circumstances did not extend to working with horses, they always fascinated her and she gobbled up any literature about horses that could be found. To research the novel, she spent time at stables and equestrian competitions, observing the routines, relationships, and culture of the horse world firsthand.
